Christchurch, New Zealand
Many people associate Christchurch only with its most tragic event: the 2011 earthquake that devastated much of the city and caused 185 deaths. But it's not the natural disaster that defines a city, it's the way they choose to regroup and rebuild.
A few years later, Christchurch was rebuilt to be respectful of the locals and more environmentally conscious, creating a city that is both dynamic and promising. Not to be missed: Kakano, a Maori-run cooking and coffee school that wants to treat people through food, and the Christchurch Art Gallery, which served as the basis for the first rescuers after the earthquake, and is now a beautiful center for a city on the move .

And while security issues persist, hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley of the Kings take place without incident. Similarly, the most important Egyptian seaside resorts in the Red Sea are considered safe.
Expect a huge increase in tourism from Egypt in the coming months as it prepares for the planned opening of its long-awaited Egyptian museum in 2020. Until then there is a perfect opportunity to beat the audience.Ghana's Cape Coast Castle is where many slaves were held before being deported.
